I recently installed Norton to scan for virus' b/c i was constantly getting messages on my cpu saying that there was not enough free memory to run exploer, etc. In addition to that, explorer shuts down periodically. I don't really know what to do, all I did was scan the files and it came up with 1 infection, which i deleted. Then I downloaded the "shredder" zip file to assist the system. What would the main problem be explorer shutting down and how can i try and fix it??? my first post!

There's a whole host of reasons that could be causing this on you.
go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
