Upgrading Internet Explorer should not have any effect on your e-mail configuration.

I use Hotmail and I know that upgrading will in no way affect your email settings.

I d/l the min. of IE6. I could've sworn I read when IE6 first came out there was only the option to go with Hot Mail. Well thanks again for your time.

IE6 doesn't have anything to do with e-mail. It's simply a web browser. Outlook Express 6 is an e-mail client, and it can be used for ALL standard POP3 accounts, not just Hotmail.
