Hi, try this: Open Windows Explorer, erase the C:\ or whatever shows in the address bar, and type a web address into the space and hit Enter....does a page open on the right side?

Are you using the same pc to post here, perhaps with a different browser, or another pc?

How do you connect to the Net, by cable, DSL, dialup etc?

I have always understood that IE can never be completely uninstalled because it is completely integrated with your OS (particularly Windows Explorer).

If you still have an entry for IE in 'Add/Remove Programs' you could try clicking on uninstall and you should be offered the option to 'repair' IE. I don't know if that will cure your problem or if there are any risks with this procedure.

Even if you do get IE back, it would be a good idea to use another browser except where you must have IE, such as Windows Update.

Have you tried to deleate the icon, the go back to your IE and right click your IE and go down to create a short cut to put another IE on your desk top. Then go to your desk top and try to open it up. Hope it works for you.

Yes, what Shark70 says makes sense if the problem is only that your IE icon on the desktop is corrupted. But it seems like your problem probably goes deeper than that. Your uninstall likely left behind some files that prevented a proper reinstallation. There is a very nice little utility that can pretty much zap IE out of existence COMPLETELY (well they clain 99% ;)). It's called IEradicator and you can find it here:

http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html

Note that this utility will work in Win 2000 sr1, but not in sr2. If it does work in your service release, you can try the free trial version of 2000lite which will let you repair or remove IE

http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html

Hope this helps,

Lightspeed.

And then after complete eradication of IE, of course you should reinstall! Sorry for the broken post, I'm still new on this forum :p!
