Hello all, I woke up yesterday to find that my internet was gone. As in, the connection was limited, and I could not connect to the internet. When I did a network diagnostic, it turned out with "Default Gateway not set". So I turned off my router and modem for 30 seconds, then turned it back on. Did not work.

At this point I had to go to work, and returned at night to try and fix the issue. When I did the network diagnostic, it gave me a "Ethernet has no valid IP configuration". I tried using ip/release and ip/renew to no avail.

Here is the info from ip/all

I am using Windows 8. Turned off firewall as well, but still to no avail. Is this a problem with my Provider, or my computer?

I am connecting through cable. I've checked if any of the wires were loose or not, but zilch.

Whats the make and model of the router

HuaWei HG256s

Do other devices connect to the router OK

Connect to router? Not sure how to check, but when my laptop is plugged to it, it gives a limited connection on an unidentified network.

Whats the status of all the lights on the router, can you post back what lights are on/off

Internet light is red on router. WLAN and LAN3 are blinking once in a while.
For modem, all lights are green and non are blinking.
/flashing

do you only have the one device ?

i would reset the router , internet light red , means it cannot log into the broadband service

Have you tried resetting the router - there should be a reset button hold that for 5 seconds and the router will reset - otherwise talk to the ISP broadband provider - the light should not be red, showing the router is NOT connected to the internet

I've tried resetting it multiple times. Trying to talk to Starhub, but they put me into a queue where I have already waited for two hours waiting for a reply. I have two devices, a desktop and a laptop.

No. I tried directly accessing it with my laptop.

Assuming you power cycled the modem when switching the device connected to it you seem to be suffering from multiple problems. This indicates a problem with the ISP or modem and your earlier ipconfig /all indicates a problem with the router. Either of those could, of course, be caused by a defective ethernet cable.

Does the modem have indicator LEDs, and if so what are they indicating?

I just spoke with Starhub, my provider. They have said its a router issue and are going to replace it (out of warranty though :(

Thanks everyone for helping!
