I live in a pretty big household here, and we have been having issues with the internet going down several times a day. We have had numerous techs come out, and no one can find the problem. We had a new line run from the box to the modem. We bought a new modem. The wireless internet doesn't go out when the internet problems happen, and my son's computer doesn't lose internet and he isn't on wireless. It seems like it affects 3 computers in the house the most, mine my mother's and my sister's. The router is only a few months old. The switch is just over a year old. We have unplugged the switch and just run the router and modem. My mother and I use windows xp. My sister uses windows 7. We all use windows explorer. I also use chrome for facebook games. We all have run anti virus software, and have not come up with any problems there. They use Norton, and I use avast. The internet lines to the computers look to be in good shape, and were replaced with cat 6 not more than a year ago. We have a motorola surfboard modem(new as of yesterday the problem was happening with the old modem too), a netgear n600 wireless dual band gigabit router, and a smc 10 100 100 ez switch. We have Cox as our internet provider. Any help would be great! Thanks

    If I understand you correctly,

    1. There are 3 computers that lose internet connection
    2. When those 3 lose internet connection, your son's (wired) computer still has access to the internet

    Is this correct?

yes that is correct. Also the other computers that are wireless are still able to access the interent as well.

I would start looking to see if there is any Malware/Spyware on those systems. Even the big boys of pc protection such as Norton or McAfee can not protect the computer 100%. I always use a second opinion, in my case it is Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org). There are plenty of others that can do the job but I have had much success with this one.. and it's free. Try running Malwarebytes and see if it finds anything.

Actually we all use malwarebytes and super antispyware along with our other virus protection. I will suggest another scan to everyone, but I'm not sure that is the issue. We have since my post put a wireless card in my sister's computer. It isn't stopping the issue, though when she is up her internet is much faster. This past week the wireless is going down when the three of us go down too, so it seems whatever the issue it is getting worse.
