I got a used desktop computer that uses Windows XP. It is not connecting to my wired internet. I have tried repairing the connection, restarting computer and modem, turning off the firewall, and renewing the IP address but still not working. Any suggestions?

Hi Rose789, and welcome to TSG.

Does the Windows hardware device manager show any errors or warnings for the Ethernet controller?

Open a DOS/Command Prompt screen on the XP computer and enter the following command:

Copy and paste the complete results into a text file and save the file to some kind of removable media, like a USB flash drive. Open the file on a computer with Internet access. Copy the file contents to the clipboard and paste them into a new entry in this thread.

Open Device Manager and see that the NIC doesn't have a yellow ! or a red X.
