Hi! I am frustrated!!! My HP Pavilion Laptop notebook has been working really great on Windows 8.1 lately FINALLY! My husband turned off electricity to work on kitchen wiring 2 days ago. Since then I haven't been able to log into our bank account online except for once a few minutes ago. Over and over I get the error message "Error_Timed_Out". Reasons, of course, give router, but my router is working fine because we can get onto Interrnet on our phones. I have tried Google Chrome which I use most often. It's also the server I was able to get through to my bank account with. I have had no luck with Internet Explorer on this issue. I have run my Windows Diagnostic Check, it showed an error which it corrected. Today I ran a check from my antivirus software "PC Doctor". It analyzed and showed an error which it also fixed. Immediately after PC Doctor fixed my error I was able to log into my bank account. But a few minutes later I couldn't get to another page in same site . I don't know what else to try. One site said I should restore my computer to an earlier point. I tried and my laptop isn't giving me the option, though it should be. Does anyone know what else to try without restoring my computer to factory condition? Thanks for any help!!! Deb in Arkansas/SIZE]

sounds like the powercut has caused a corruption on the laptop - I assume it was on and working at the time
you could try

Shame the restore has not worked or been enabled.
when you say
I tried and my laptop isn't giving me the option
do you mean it says there are no restore points ?
or something else ?

chkdsk
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6221-chkdsk-check-drive-errors-windows-8-a.html
this will check for any issues on the harddrive
and then
sfc \scannow
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html
this will check the windows files

Thank you for responding so quickly! I was able to restore to a recent point after all, but then I received several errors. Those have slowed down. I think my laptop needs a good blow dusting as well. I just hadn't looked HARD enough for the restore point. I had found one and it didn't give an option of EARLIER restore and didn't find the right link until a couple of days ago.
re power supply: My laptop WAS off, but not unplugged when my husband cut the elec off.
I will DEFINITELY use the links you provided. Thank you so much, ETAF! Have a great day!:p
