Using the USB (as no network card) requires you to load the modem drivers - from the CD that came with it.
Otherwise use another computer to download the drivers and then install onto your computer.
    Ethernet does not require drivers.

The modem setup also asks if USB is installed (you've probably done that)

Have you taken the router out of the equation to confirm it's not that.

Can you get into the router config page and confirm USB is enabled

You know if this gets harder and harder here, it might be easier to buy a $10 network card

No but you could plug ethernet cable into network card and then modem which will certainly give a better connection and easier job.

"...and that would make it wireless right?"

You didn't say Wireless in your original message.
If I had known that, I would have said
Does your m/b support wireless ?
Do you have a wireless USB device ?
How far away is the modem ?
Is it direct cable to modem ?
By the way is this a PC or Laptop ?
Are you running Windows Xp or Vista ?
Are all your network connections enabled ?

Really I could ask lots more. Maybe you could just describe your setup.

I've got one of those (I had to get it, for computers like yours without Net)
    Mines color blue too!

Anyway yes mine seems to work well, it sticks out a bit. I still think you should purchase a PCI 10/100 network card (minimum) though.

I'm still concerned you are going to have issues with USB to Net as you are in fact, still using the USB on your computer.

You can do one of three things (was going to be two!)

Call your ISP to confirm you have done everything right (Drivers; Connection...)
Wait for the USB to Net device to arrive
Purchase a network card (Internal PCI) Your local computer service business should help you here.

At this stage I will wait on the outcome of all of the above.
