Just recently, I've been experiencing serious speed problems with my internet, slowing my downloads sometimes from 200 kb/s to 3 kb/s... yes, three. I have run Ad Aware and I just enabled Spyware Blaster but there's been no noticeable increase in speed at all. Any streamed video is jerky or it keeps buffering constantly. I'm using a wireless router on a wireless LAN to connect to the net, but as the router setup isn't new, I don't think that's the cause.

I'm on Bell Sympatico DSL, with an unlimited monthly plan, so I know it's not bandwidth capping, but my speeds are terrible, and sometimes webpages half load, stop loading or they just won't load at all, and I have to stop and refresh.

Any advice or help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

wireless won't be as fast as a hardwired/rj-45 router.

you may be paying for umteen $ for hi bandwidth but who's to say what they actually deliver.
depending on the time of day, prime time the worst, when everybody's on, dsl can be as slow if not slower than a dialup connection.

does the speed improve if you disable nis?

to me, you have a lot of garbage on your system that's doing nothing but slowing you down and i wonder how much of it is loading on startup.

nav is the only i have loading on all systems:cool:

I realise it won't be as fast, but this problem is only recent, and happened in the last two weeks or so. I'm going to uninstall some of the programs I've been using with the internet and see what happens.
