As mentioned in the title, my internet is working fine. spent some time onthe phone with my service provider and he said everything is fine and suggested i plug into another computer and sure enough it works without issue. So everything using wifi works but my desktop will not connect with the ethernet cable.
I just get issues saying problems with dns server.

Attached is the ipconfig /all as it seems to be the first thing asked for from other post i have been reading through.
any help would be greatly appreciated as i would rather not go to the extreme of reformatting.

hi tremblayj,

Did you try to look in your device manager to see if there are any errors with your ethernet device?

From the look of your ipconfig everything looks fine.

Also can you try to force a new ip addres by:

1) opening a command prompt
2) type: ipconfig /release ENTER
2) type: ipconfig /renew ENTER

Well I continued to try different things (blindly) and tried one suggestion of changing DNS server address to global DNS values and it worked.
Hopefully it is as easy as that. Anyone have any idea as to what could have cause this to happen based on that fix?

IP 209.197.128.2 shows as dns1.distributel.net located in Toronto.

Usually if you have auto DNS selected in the TCP/IP settongs for the NIC, the first DNS server listing is the router, 192.168.1.1 in your case, followed by the ISP servers, which for Cogeco wouid be 24.266.1.xx or 24.266.10.xx.

Run an ipconfig /all for a wireless connection and see what shows for DNS servers there.

Check the WAN (internet) DNS settings on your midem/router and the TCP/IP v4 settings for the LAN Connction on the computer to be sure they are set for auto DNS.
