    Hi,

I am trying to run an over-install, but i am getting this:
"Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VSDATA95(1) + 00014F88 to device 0028"
after working through the installation procedure.

    I think its driver-related, but i don't know what to do ...

    John :)

    Hi,

I looked at this page from microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q297725

They only list one cause ...

    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Zone Labs, Inc. ZoneAlarm Internet security program is installed
    on your computer.

So now i'm trying to figure out how to Uninstall ZA on a PC that won't run.

    John :)

Well, i thought, i would try to start the PC at a command prompt,
and see if i could remove ZoneAlarm from there.
So tapping on F8 i plugged it in, to see what came up.

Much to my surprise an option for safe mode came up.
I hadn't expected that cos i was half way through an over-install.

So now its running in safe mode.

I am going to try to remove or uninstall ZA from here.

    John :)

After a few presses of enter,
    the safe mode came back,
and the uninstall of ZA continued ....

Now the PC wants to shutdown and re-start.
I hope it does so alright.

    It has restarted,
and gone straight back into the over-install of 98,
just like nothing was ever wrong.

It doesn't know how close it came to the garden bonfire.

    Overinstall complted.
My original files all seem intact.

    Going to re-install ZoneAlarm now,
    (hope thats ok.)

Ive never had ZA interfere with an overinstall before,
i will watch out for that in future.

    Regards, John :)

    Opon re-installing ZoneAlarm,
a little box came up asking me if i would like to keep the
settings from a previous installation of ZA. So i said yes.

It installed with all the settings just as they were before.
There must have been a little file left behind from uninstalling.

    All seems ok so far.
I am now on the PC thats just been over-installed.

    Cheers, John :)
