IP Address Information

    Does someone know what these phrases mean?
    • NetType is "Direct Allocation"

    a fair bit of techno babble but basically they mean exactly what they seem to mean

    - direct allocation: receive a block of IP addresses from ARIN and have to use them according to ARIN policies (ie not hoard them etc)

    - non-portable: the IP addresses/address blocks stay with the current 'owner' who 'leases' them to it's customers - change ISPs and you change your IP address, can't take it with you

    ARIN (American Registyr of Internet Numbers) at http://www.arin.net/index.html has lots more if interested
