Hi, my iPhone microphone isn't working. I think it's an iPhone 7. When I call someone they can't hear me, the "speaker" button is greyed out, and I can't hear what they are saying. In voice memos, when I press the red record button nothing happens. My phone doesn't have a problem playing normal audio such as videos or voicemails. Also, when I use bluetooth earbuds or call someone from the car it works fine. However, when I use normal plug-in earbuds I don't think my iPhone recognizes that I have plugged in earbuds earbuds, although when I plug in a charger it works fine. I have looked online and can't find anyone else with the same problem, so maybe it's just an issue with my device and I need to take it in to be fixed. Thanks!
Correct, I do not have AppleCare. The reason I posted here is I thought it might be more than just a hardware issue because I can't hear other people when I talk on the phone, but I don't really know how it works so maybe that just happens when a mic isn't working.
SInce the plug and the mic are in the same area, then I suspect it would be a hardware relating to the mic specifically. Did the phone have any damage/drop/spills?
If you are not aware, Apple is notorious for making it very hard to almost impossible to get your apple devices that have no warranty fixed. Apple may be able to fix it but at a steeper cost than some independent place. So bear that in mind if you are looking to get it fixed.
Thanks, I talked to a local repair shop and apparently the iPhone 7 has a piece on the motherboard that works with audio that breaks easily if the phone is dropped. I have dropped my phone a few times, so I think that's probably it. They said it would be $150 to fix it, so I figure I'm probably better off getting a newer iPhone since it's pretty old and is having some other issues as well. Thanks for your help!
If you are on a contract, check with your provider to see if they have any deals. My wife and I got the XRs 2 for 1.
