Is a 500w psu enough for this system?

If you decide to replace the Core i9-9900K (95W) with a Core i9-9900 (65W), it's still a decent upgrade from the original Core i7-9700 (65W).
These are the performance ratings for both CPU's.

Probably better off spending the money on a decent motherboard and case. Use the 9900K and he would have a much better upgrade path. An i9 9900 is $370 on newegg. For that money he can get a quality motherboard and case.

I don't know what's on his mind, so I just wanted to give him the specs of both CPU's.
