My girlfriend's Mac died, but I saved the HD. I want to buy an external HD case (USB) and try to salvage some files. For the time being, I want to know if I can hook up the Mac HD to my Windows system and be able to retrieve files such as Appleworks or other compatible files?

Not that I'm aware of. Mac formatted drives/files don't seem to be to compatible with Windows. I don't believe that Windows will even 'see' the drive.

You can however, format the hard drive and use it in the PC.

I only post that there are products out there. I don't play pricing wars in providing solutions. That's what they pay my boss the Director of IT for.
