Every so often I get these emails from people in China who say they have a client who wants to register my domain name as a .cn, .com.cn, .asia, etc and they want to know if I want to register those domains and keyword..... they also say their client wants to register my name as their keyword.

I never heard of registering a name as a keyword before. I looked it up and apparently you can pay to register a word typically your domain name but it costs more than a domain. If this legit?

For example, my photography/aviation site is flightlineaviationmedia.com which is registered to me. I reply to these Chinese people that I have no connection to their client and do not want to register a .cn name but is it necessary to register the "flightlineaviationmedia" as a keyword? Whats the benefit? Or is this just a fancy way of trying to get business from me.

It's a scam. You own the domain. You can't register a search term.

Oh! I didn't know that. The email looked pretty legit. So there really is no registry of keywords outside of China from what I see.

Here's a universal tip; if it's from China it's likely a scam or spam; don't respond to such emails.
