I've had Kapersky for 2 renewals now. For some reason my operating system seems very slow. Could it be the newer versions of Kapersky? I check for viruses regularly and none appear to exist. Outllok and othe programs seem very slow to boot and files also take more time than I remember to boot or execute,

    Please help !!

    Thanks,

Can you tell me how much RAM is on that computer?

    Also,

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    Do not fix anything

I am running Kaspersky 2010 on an HP laptop with Vista, a core 2 duo T5300, and 2GB RAM. Not really a powerful PC. It is my second year with Kaspersky and have not noticed any slow down. The biggest program I run on this PC is Adobe Photo Elements 6.0 and it does not seem slow,

I did get rid of a lot of background processes and only have 27 running.

I would start by uninstalling all Symantec related stuff with the Norton Removal Tool. Run the tool at least twice.

FF is a real resource hog, though you don't seem to use it! I am posting below snaps to highlight how much FF and "avp" are using! If i may suggest, please post a snap of "processes" under "task manager".

I would clean out startup by going "Run,msconfig,ok,startup" and removing the checkmarks from everything except: Kaspersky Internet Security, hit "apply" "ok" and then restart.

    Dear makomyday,
I can be of assistance to you there! Kindly visit this website and download a free tool called "Greenshot", which is the utility you will be using to take "snapshots" or "thumbnails" for posting them here. The site :http://greenshot.sourceforge.net/.

You may place it in the taskbar for easy access! Right-click on the "icon" and you get to see "capture window, capture region ,capture full screen, etc. Suppose you want to show only the processes under Task Manager >>>ctrl+Alt+Del, and the second heading opens up the processes. You can actually maximize it and then , right-click on Greenshot and click on "capture region" and drag the whole thing you wish to display with the LEFT-click firmly pressed down! Once you finish the task, just remove the finger and you get to hear a nice sound as if you have really taken a pic. Now ,under "save as" choose "My Documents" and give some name for future reference(you'll need it). Each post allows five such "snaps", also called "thumbnails"

For example, antech said KIS is resource hungry! It is far from the truth. It is Firefox Browser which uses resources as if there is no tomorrow! So, how do you substantiate it? A pic. speaks a thousand words!

As you scroll down the techguy reply page, you get to see "Manage Attachments". Click on it. A page opens on the left-side of the main page, and there you get to see "Browse and "upload" page. You know what to browse and where to browse, because you gave the first snap a name "Resource Hungry" and saved it in "My Documents".Now ,navigate to the destination and click on Resource Hungry icon and it will appear as a path in "Manage Attachments". Now click on "UPLOAD" and wait as it loads into a snap in the manage att. Thus, you repeat the procedure to a max. of five. Now, i am posting a few snaps to show how much "avp"used by the administrator and system is using and "how much resources Firefox is eating up. suppose you don't know (like i was, until hewee taught me these tricks of the trade) how to capture a region, and click on "capture full screen", people will know about your "going's-on" with Angelina Jolie in Twitter in the taskbar and requests from the city mayor asking you for "tips" on how to satisfy every body as your President has got the health bill passed! If some hacker with a "black Hat" sees all this he will be tempted to hack your "Fort Knox" like security!:D(y)

PS: it is always a good point to post your computer specifications!:)
