i run frequent updates to all software installed and run regular scans that only ever return low grade cookie trackers and tell me i am not infected.
but recently i notice when i'm online that occassionaly the web page seems to blink with another small window/image. this is starting to make me wonder if something is active that isnt being found on the scans.
thanks in advance for any ideas.

No single antivirus / antispyware will catch 100% of all intrusions.

You can double check with online scans by other vendors, like : TrendMicro Housecall, Panda, BitDefender and Kapersky.
