I have an NEC LCD monitor. it is almost 5 yrs old. it is usually on 8 or more hours a day. I do use a powersaving mode to shut it off after 20 minutes idle. Now, If it is left on for a wile, the back light goes out. If you shine a flashlight on th sceen, you can see the image. just no backlight.

Is it repairable or is it time for a new monitor?

    thanks

    It's not necessarily so bad.

The backlight is one of the few things you can fix - DIY - on the cheap!
Depending on how resourceful you are. ;)

Drop the word "backlight" into the search box at this very forum and you'll get a fair bit of information..... likewise searching Google.

19" HC-194D Analog Digital LCD Monitor Black for $119.95 after rebate. If you add $10.05 to the order, you also get free shipping.

By the time you screw around finding and fixing the inverter and/or lamp in that display, you could have had a nice 19" one with a three year warranty. It also has both DVI and VGA inputs, and speakers too. :)

Yeah that and the fact there is too much power lodged in those babies for me to chance tinkering with to save $50 anyway!
