I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. Recently the scrolling feature on my touchpad has been working intermittently. Do these things ever wear out? And can they be replaced? The computer is almost six years old. Other than this I am not having any problems.

160 GB SSD running Windows 7 and Windows 8 on a dual boot system.
The Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop(which has a Synaptics touchpad) has driver support for Windows XP and Windows Vista(32-bit), but not for Windows 7 or Windows 8.

It's my guess you have a driver issue with the touchpad.

I've been using it with Windows 7 since it came out and with Windows 8 since September. I have had no problems with it until a few days ago. So I don't think the OS is the issue.

You didn't say that at the beginning of your thread, so I wasn't aware.

I'm not there, so I don't know if it's a hardware issue or a software issue.

I'll pass to someone else who may be able to resolve your issue.

Good luck.
