Greetings.I just bought a used HP pavilion 7915.When I turned it on the screen said no operating system. When I tried to install XP,the screen said I couldnt install because I had no hard disc. Please excuse my ignorance,Does that mean The hard drive is gone? or does it mean I just have to get a disc for the hard drive? If its the latter,is the disc expensive,if its the former does that mean the machine is worthless? If I have to buy another hard drive and have that installed,is that expensive? Lot of questions I know, please help. Thanks:eek:

it says no operating system because what was in there was wiped clean.how are u installing xp? put the xp disk into the cd drive and reboot the computer. when it reboots hit F12 for the boot order. set it to boot from a cd. then hit enter and u should see a black screen with a blinking cursor which will say press any key to boot from a cd hit enter again and it should start installing xp and go from there. hard drives arent expensive if that what u need. but i dont think the drive is bad. copies of xp pro and home arent expensive either. but u have a disk so u dont need to buy another one.hope this helps u.

No luck. By reboot,I assume you mean restart.I did that with XP in the cdrom and hit F12 then enter. It will begin to load some files from the disc then say its ready to install windows.Next comes a blue screen asking me to install from CD or hard drive.I choose CDD by hitting enter and it tells me I have no hard disc drives installed on my computer so I cant load windows please hit F3 to exit. So what,if anything, can I do now? Thank you for your help by the way.Its really appreciated.

    Hi,,,
Either your hard drive is damaged, or it is entirely missing, or is just not being detected by the system for some reason....it could be just a jumper misplaced or a ribbon cable not right...

Is it a tower computer like this one? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go »

You will need to become familiar with how to look up information, get downloads for your computer....

    Let's start with :

How To's> including run a Recovery, reinstall programs, etc > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=62761

It's a radical idea, but you could just open the case and look.

First I am asking the poster to go through some simple steps that will tell us whether the drive is detected in BIOS or not.If the poster was familiar with pc components, I am pretty sure they would have already taken a look inside the case... not everyone is capable of working inside their computer case.

Here is a clip of part of the info that you can also see at one of the links I posted in my last reply::

    ◦ Tell me If a hard drive name is listed there,if not you will need to open the case and check a few things. You could help me by posting whether you have any experience with working with computer parts, hard disks, cables, jumpers?

No hard drive, no problem! :)

Please do keep the HP links I posted about Recovery etc - you will need to learn how to do Recovery and what to do after that..... Good luck!
