Is there any such thing as a bare windows O/S without all the "extras" added in. I find it annoying to have to delete unwanted addons when I or anyone buys a new system or has to do a total recovery and then when you delete these addons you do not know what is left behind. So my question then would be "Is there a such thing as a windows O/S or any O/S that comes with only what is needed to run it and I can add what I want?

Do you mean all the little extras (typically shareware) that vendors add-in?

Yes, I want a bare system with IE, no shareware, demos, realplayers, msn, game zones, etc...

The Retail XP comes with verry little extras, non of what you mentioned, but it does come with MSN, which is easy enough to uninstall.
