Here's my current situation using a MacBook Pro mid 2009.

    Steps before installation:
I burned the Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit Mac iso onto a DVD.
I created an additional partition via Disk Utility.
I have reFit installed and working.

    Problem:
With the DVD loaded in my SuperDrive, I restarted my laptop and held the C key to boot from disk. The Ubuntu menu appears shortly after and then I choose, "Try Ubuntu". After that, the screen goes black and the grey cursor flashes in the upper left hand corner. After about 5 seconds, the screen goes completely dark except for a small single colored square with a random character inside of it and the installation process just hangs there. Nothing happens after that, the computer stops working and I am forced to power off my laptop.

Can anyone please help me resolve this issue? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm not familiar with Macs, but on Windows once or twice I had similar problems with 'Try' so I used 'Install'.
Everything loaded and then at the first stage of 'Install' I selected 'Cancel' which then reverted to loading Ubuntu in the 'Try' mode.
The cancel option appears on several of the early stages of the install process so you can't accidentally install. But .... just in case make a backup to external media of all your important docs, pics etc etc.

    Hope this helps.
    Richard

I just tried selecting just "Install" and the issue appears again. Could it be a graphical issue? Is there some setting that I could change before clicking "Install" on the main menu? Thanks for your response.

Every linux I've seen starts with 3 options: Try, Install or Check Disk. (or Check Media) You might check your disk before you go any farther.

You might have better luck with Ubuntu's Alternate Installation Disk.

DVOM, it's wierd because every option I select, I get the same issue right after selection. I will try the alternative installer and post back what happens. Thanks everyone!
