Hello. I'm running a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530-C, Windows 7 64-bit SP 1 + subsequent updates, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD.

For several years I've been using iTunes to backup my iPhone 5. About three months ago, I got the popup that an iTunes update was available, so I installed it. Next time I tried to backup my phone, it wasn't recognized by iTunes. (I don't know the last version that did work.)

Traced the problem to Apple Mobile Device Support not being installed. I uninstalled iTunes, including all related Apple components like Bonjour, software updater, etc. and reinstalled. No luck.

Recently I read another support post on Apple's site recommending uninstalling and then reinstalling by running the individual component .msi files in the setup.exe. Downloaded and unzipped the .exe for iTunes 12.9 for Windows. Then ran the AMDS .msi and within a few seconds got the error...

AMDS wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified.

I'm looking at upgrading my phone soon and need to have a backup so I can reinstall apps, contacts, etc. on my new phone. So, this is getting a bit more urgent.

Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!
