For some reason, many (but not all) of the apps on my iPhone stopped working and crashed on startup. I hoped that rebooting would solve the problem, so I hooked it up to my computer to do a tethered boot with Redsn0w... but while I was trying to start up DFU mode, my finger slipped off the power button before it entered DFU mode, and the screen went blank. Now it won't turn on at all. No Apple logo or anything. I tried the process to start in DFU mode again (several times), and held down the power button for over 30 seconds, but to no avail. How can I fix this?

Edit: I found a website showing a way to get it to boot by holding the Power and Home buttons for 10+ seconds and it booted (with the help of an app called Semitether). I haven't marked this as solved because I am still having trouble getting into DFU mode so I can reboot with Jailbreak features (including the all-important carrier unlock).
It seems that after I shut down, when I try to reboot it skips the 3-seconds-wait for the first stage of the DFU activation, and shuts down again if I continue with the DFU steps; otherwise it reboots into the half-functional state mentioned above.
