lets drink a toast to innocence
lets drink a toast to now
and try to reach beyond the emptiness
Does anyone know how
(after Dan Fogelberg)

There are those of us just slightly older than angelize' baby-boomers
Someone years ago called us the Eisenhower generation; maybe that is as good as anything else.
We we post-beat, but not post drugs. We dropped acid for the experience, not for the fad. ( Poor Clinton. By the time hr got to Oxford smoking dope was a rite of passage. I believe that he took a drag to be with it, but afraid to inhale because of his mothers addiction). Such a short generation. We were innocent.
This weekend is filled with memories of innocence gained and innocence lost. Martins death also stands for Jack and Bobby. For me Bobby was the worst. He was one of us.
The Beatles first made the charts today with "I want to hold your hand. Thirty-nine years ago.
And tomorrow our muse ,our Joan of Arc, Janis would have been sixty.

That is scarey. I remember so vividly that song being released. I was a tender 9 years old.

I once seen a documentary on Janice Joplin. It was one of the saddest stories I ever heard. She seemed like a very troubled lady. Very talented. :( Lord rest her. :)

Oh, Pearl, we hardly knew ya!! Have about everything she ever released and then some. No one has ever come close to replacing her. Gone, but never forgotten.

plschwartz - thanks for the memories (at least those I can remember):D

As T.L. said, "If you can remember the 60's, you didn't live the 60's" (or something to that effect)!

"Mercedes Benz"

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?
I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That’s it!

Bette Midler in "The Rose" was based on Janis' life. I love Janis' rendition of "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart". :) She was definitely one of a kind! I read her biography...sad and lonely lady despite her fame. Damned drugs anyways! Thanks PL and Happy Birthday Janis. Take care. angel :)

Oh, come on, come on, come on, come on!

Didn’t I make you feel like you were the only man —yeah!
Didn’t I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can ?
Honey, you know I did!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I think I’ve had enough,
But I’m gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough.

I want you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby!
Oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, oh, have a!
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it if it makes you feel good,
Oh, yes indeed.

You’re out on the streets looking good,
And baby deep down in your heart I guess you know that it ain’t right,
Never, never, never, never, never, never hear me when I cry at night,
Babe, I cry all the time!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I can’t stand the pain,
But when you hold me in your arms, I’ll sing it once again.

I’ll say come on, come on, come on, come on and take it!
Take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
Oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah,
Oh, oh, have a!
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

I need you to come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby!
oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, c’mon now.
oh, oh, have a
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby.
You know you got it —whoahhhhh!!

Take it!
Take it! Take another little piece of my heart now, baby,
Oh, oh, break it!
Break another little bit of my heart, now darling, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Oh, oh, have a
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, hey,
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good

This is ironic.

Over thirty years ago a coworker and I both wanted a copy of the Pearl album. I found them at an obsure store and bought one and put the other one behind some other albums where he could find it. He never went back and got it. Fast foward 29 years and while looking through my old 33's I came across that album and got to thinking ,I never play them anymore ,so I took it to where his wife worked and told her to give it to him. Don't know if he even has a way to play it but it gave me a good feeling to pass it on.

PS-My wife never did like me to play it while she was around because of the "Mercedes Benz" track on it. The record is gone but I still have my wife of 41 years. Smart move.

plschwartz, no, only the extracts played on the documentary.
Is their something you can recommend, if she had a greatest hits
album that would be nice. I must do a search on CD sites.:)

If you gotta buy one album make it Pearl.

But why down you download them. Janis is dead and besides I don't think she would have minded.
