Welcome to Tech Support Guy

A little more information is required please
1. Your spec - says
Windows XP
Home or Professional please
SP3

are all updates installed for Windows
Make and model of computer if branded please

JAVA
Is there an error report please
If so what and from where
How long have you had the problem please

What have you tried to date .

Please remember that all I have to work with is a little knowledge and what you tell me

#3 ·
i have windows XP home on a dell computer when i try to download java i get the download has been interupted i was told to remove old java. when i tried that the removal failed and said 'fatal error during installation'. have tried system restore and a regesrty fix program. dont know what else to do .:(

#4 ·
That
and a regesrty fix program.
was and please be assured - always will be a mistake.
There is not ONE reliable registry fix program.
The only way to repair a corrupted/damaged registry is from a backup, such as ERUNT or from a restore point.
OR if you have the knowledge, from regedit and edit/amend the relevant aspects of the key etc.

BEFORE we start, as this may be a long job and I cannot promise success, please tell me
1. ALL you have tried - was the attempted uninstall of Java through Control Panel add/remove programs or by the use of some tool

2. Are you please, going to stay with it, until either we succeed or I am unable to fix it.
DO NOT please be annoyed by me asking this, but it is quite annoying to spend hours trying to help and then suddenly realise that you have decided to leave the issue and not told me.

3. If we work together I will not sign off without telling you, would you please do the same for me
That saves either of us waiting for a reply that is not arriving in that session.

4. If we are going to work together please do not try anything except what I suggest
I do not mean by that, that I have all the answers by any means, but if you are trying other things we will very likely end up confused, or at least I will.

Okay
I have left you time to read that

please tell me the following

1.
SP3

are all updates installed for Windows
Please confirm that you do have SP3 and all known updates installed

2. Make and model of computer if branded please
[/QUOTE]
You have posted Dell - what is the full model please

Thank you for the reply
Start with this please

1. GO start My Computer right click the C Drive
Click properties
On the window that is shown what please is the capacity of the drive and how much free space is there
We are looking for about a minimum of 10%

2. Subject to it being about that click the Tools tab
Now click error checking
Now click check now
The first box should already be checked that is check for file errors
Click to check the second box - check for bad sectors
Now click Start
Agree the message to run on restart and do so please
It is a five stage check please do not interrupt it
When it is complete

3. GO Control Panel
Admin Tools
Event Viewer
On left pane click application
when that log loads on the central window
click the source coloum heading once
That will sort them
Now scroll down that window to the winlogon entries
It is possible that the most recent winlogon entry will be the chkdsk you have just run
Double click to open it and check that it is please
If so click the double page symbol to the right of the main window near to the broad up and down arrows
Then on reply right click and paste
The chkdsk results will appear

If the first winlogon you open is not the right results then check the other winlogon until you find it please.

4. Now go here please and download Speccy the free edition
http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

run that and then see this as to how to send me the results
http://www.piriform.com/docs/speccy/using-speccy/publishing-a-speccy-profile-to-the-web

5. Now in respect of Java see this please
http://www.java.com/en/download/uninstall.jsp

and what please happens exactly when you do that by Control Panel add/remove programs
Please send me the exact message
If it does not work when trying in normal mode go Safe Mode with networking that is on the F8 key on boot and then select that
Now go back to Control Panel. add/remove programs and try again please

I am signing off about 12 midnight UK time it is now 2243

#13 ·
Send me the web LINK for speccy NOT the paste of Speccy please
Then edit and delete all of your last post please
In otherwords when speccy appear on the web page all you do is right click copy the URL and post it

eg
The last part of each URL is randomized, so only people you provide with the URL will be able to find your profile.
so this is an example and you copy YOUR url of speccy and send it to me
http://speccy.piriform.com/results/nGmV1yekiTFbWJJ1oggVwcV

Do not worry about it but it is easier for me and you would not have had to copy and paste all that.

YOU are not with respect following the directions.
Please READ the post 13
and this from post 2
I am not being awkward but many hundreds of people have posted speccy results to me on this and another place I work on
ALL you have to do is click once on the address at the top of the browser when the speccy results appear you then right click and copy
YOU then PASTE the web address -the URL - NOT the results

#16 ·
Does this help it is ONLY what was in the link I sent you
To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
  1. In Speccy, click File, and then clickPublish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a secondPublish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
back on post 2.
BUT you DO NOT need to copy it to your clipboard you simply copy the web address and send me that

#17 ·

OR if you have the knowledge, from regedit and edit/amend the relevant aspects of the key etc.

IOBit most certainly falls into that category and is best left where it was - not on your computer

However the main point is it is fixed and I am pleased you succeeded.
