I'm running a Dell E510 with XP Media Center Edition, and I teach College courses online using WebCT. I won't go into an anti-WebCT rant right now, however tempting that is.
Anyway, several major features of WebCT simply won't work on my computer, because they depend on Java.

Most (but not all) Java applets simply won't run on my computer. I click the button for, say, WebCT email, and nothing happens. At all.

I have uninstalled everything Java related and installed the latest Java. My anti-Pop-Up software is disabled. I have done everything short of sacrifice chickens to Satan. Nothing I've found elsewhere on this forum works.

My College tech guys have given up, though one of them whispered in my ear the other day that I'm not the only one with this problem. I could ask WebCT, but that would need a seance.

Anyone got any suggestions, as this is driving me totally nuts and making my job impossible?

There is a difference between Sun Java and JavaScript, and it is the latter that you need for WebCT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript

It is my understanding that most browsers have JavaScript embedded, but I don't know if that applies to IE7. If you are using any version of IE you might want to try Opera or Firefox instead.

Absolutely. All true. All fully downloaded, plugged in, enabled and prayed over. And it still doesn't work. At all.

Have you tried the Doctor C Search function at Blackboard.com? Using 'JavaScript problem' as the search term produced 500 'hits' for me, including this one; http://discussions.webct.com/jive4/thread.jspa?messageID=91792&#91792

I assume you are not trying to post to a bulletin board, but this does appear to confirm what you have been told ie:, that others are having the same problem.

From your response I assume you have tried rolling IE7 (if you have it) back to 6, and/or using another browser? ;http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

First and most damaging is simply the email function. Then there's the HTML compiler. These are the worst; there are plenty of smaller, irritating ones (e.g. the multiple file upload) besides.
