Jpg files become huge after moving or copying them

Hi, I have an abundance of photographs edited through Lightroom. They export normally with correct sizes but when I move or copy them to my computer or external drive at a later date, everything fails because for some reason they have a much larger size. Mostly 10.5 mb. My external drive is now more than doubled in capacity. Is this fixable?
Thank you in advance.

Sorry, that's supposed to say .jpg

I'm saving them as .jpg and they remain that format but much bigger. I'm only using a windows os to copy or move them

I'm guessing the Image Size has increased (Total Pixels) -or- the Image quality (jpeg Compression)
I'd suggest using Irfanview instead of anything widows provides.
Can you see the Image quality ?
