My computer is a mess. I constantly run xsoftspy and ad aware but still runs like a turtle. Now, shell.dll is missing and my computer is trying to load a universal player when I put in a CD to run. I tryed to restore about a week back with no improvement. Hope you can give me some advice on what to do. I tried to find out how to do a new post but could not find it anywhere. Thanks

We could trim the start-up so that your computer runs faster. Curious what norton products do you have?

MFDnSC was nice enough look at your HJT log (thanks MFDnSC!)

Thanks so much for the help.
1. removed outdated 2005 Norton antivirus
2. Loaded MCAfee Virus Scan 2006
3. No viruses found on scan
4. Computer now will not shut down. Have to physically turn off the power switch.
5. Explorer times out on me. After about 20 minutes of surfing, I have to reboot the computer because it no longer accesses the web. This has been going on for a couple of months.
6. At times, when I put a CD in, I get the message. Shell.dll not found.

Extremely slow on startup. About 4-5 minutes. Definitely need help. Thanks

Thanks
Ran CW shredder: found nothing there
ran housecall: said found lots of things. Program acted very squirly. Let me delete infections but the program seemed to not finish up. Never left me a log of what happened. At one point, said that it could not removed something. Log of hjt is below.

thanks Mike
