Hi, I am in need of some help as this rootkit I have gotten has infected both of my Acer laptops. 1 Acer is a 4 G running windows 7, the other is 6 months older an Acer 3 G running windows 7. when the first laptop started acting up, i could'nt fix it & my husband bought me a brand new one, to replace it. believe it or not the new 4 G Acer got infected from my Webroot internet security CD! that;s the only way i can figure it got in the new one. I sent my 3 G Acer to a PC guy, to have Windows 7 reinstalled, as I had no disk from factory to do so. While it was out being repaired, i started my new laptop, removed McAffe which came with the PC, and tried to install Webroot internet security from a CD. I wondered if it was possible for the infection to be on the CD, (as it had been in the old PC) and asked my PC guy this. He assured me that Webroot and other software companies have fail safes on their programs for this. needless to say, he was WRONG. My 4 G Acer is now showing the same symptoms. Every time I boot my PC my file sharing and network discovery settings have changed! I have to manually go and change them back to no file sharing. whatever infection I have is taking ownership of my files, alot of files are becoming ACCESS DENIED. I tried researching all the symptoms, and so far it seems to be a bad rootkit, maybe a kernel rootkit. my symptoms resemble the terror rootkit or Vundo? From what I've read this infection is so bad it actually creates a clone on your hard disk & reinstalls itself even after reformatting. I believe it, as the 3 G Acer is still infected, even though my PC guy reinstalled a fresh Windows 7 OS for me. Iam at a loss as what to do, I have been trying to fix with malware bytes, spybot, adAware, and others in safemode, for a few months now, but the infection keeps coming back. I just tried to install and run a new program, Dragon, while trying to save a training session, my PC came up with a prompt that ACCESS is DENIED again. please, any help would be greatly appreciated, as I now have $1,000 in 2 PC'S which are getting worse everyday. I have sent my highjack this log. When I tried to save the DDS logs to my desktop, they disappeared! So I will have to run the scan again and cut and paste here while the log is still open.
Thank you so much for any help.
