does anyone know the reasoning behind choosing 'ctrl+V' for the command to 'paste'? Why 'V'????

ctrl P = print's and my guess is view what's copied but who knows. That's the best I can do, but it was an interesting question.:D

Actually, since Ctrl+Z is undo, Ctrl+X is Cut, Ctrl+C is Copy, then the next letter on the keyboard is V, so maybe that's why?!

Hmmm. Off the top of my head, and in MS, but not in ALL programs:

    Ctrl + Description

    a Select All
    b Bold
    c Copy to the clipboard
d Duplicate graphic or format font
    e Center
    f Find
g Go to (also F5 key)
    h Find/Replace
    i Italicize
    j Full justify
    k Open?
    l Left justify
    m Indent
    n New document/window/file
    o Open file
    p Print
    q Revert to normal format
    r Right justify
s Save file (also F12 key)
    t Hanging indent
    u Underline
    v Paste (also Shift-Insert)
    w Close file
    x Cut to the clipboard
y Redo last command (also F4 key)
z Undo (you can't do this in real life)

I'm inclined to agree with RandyG on this one. When you depress CTRL-C to copy to the clipboard it's easy for us 'hunt & peckers' to simply move our stubby little index finger over to the 'V' key to paste.
