What do I have to do to activate the number keyboard area on the right side of my keyboard. - - - john 1926

Did you try shutting off the Number Lock?

Do you mean keypad, all you have to do is press the button called num lock and make sure this light light up, their are usually 3 lights one beside the other one is Caps lock located under tab, one is between pause/break and print screen known as scroll lock and one is num lock located above the 7 on the left side of the keyboard.
