You can try Simple Server if you don't have a router it works pretty good.

The distance dosen't matter. If you are running simple server and it is set up correctly (it is actually simple) then your friend 5 miles away can get files from the folder you specify. And he will have to run it for you to get files from him. You could also look into making an FTP folder and you both sharing that. http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Software/FTP_freeware/

I thought you just wanted to share files. I do not know anything about games. You should post in the games section. Good luck.

You should be technically able to do that if you have an FTP set up. I doubt it would work with Simple Server though.

You can check the FTP programs I gave you the link for above. That is the only way you can share files. Unless you want to get a 5 mile long cable and connect directly to your friends computer :)

You just put the files you want to share into it's own folder along with an html page that points to those files and then start simple server and point it to that folder. It will show you an Ip address on the top to give your friend to connect.

Do you know how to make an html page? If not you will have to read up on how to do it. It's just a webpage with the links to the files you want to share and whatever else you want on it.
