lan problems with xp

    i have a cable internet connection which connects through a LAN.when i use win xp as the operating system the internet works fine for 3-7 days then it stops connecting to the gateway.the error message i get i - cannot contact the server.if i connect the the same internet cable to another pc having win98se or win2000 then it works fine.
    what might be the problem.
    please help me out.
    i have checked my system for viruses and did not find any.
    I HAVE NOTICED ONE THING.THE SENT PACKETS IS ACTIVE BUT THE RECEIVED PACKETS IS INACTIVE(NO DATA IS BEING RECEIVED-ONLY ONE LIGHT IS BLINKING)
    i am using win xp professional
    please help me out.

    hai,
    As u hav specified that ur using XP pro so pls check that ur personal firewall is disabled or enabled , if it is enabled then disable the personal firewall .

    there is no problem with that lines bcos i have taken a 1 year contract with them

    Those update on a weekly basis ;)

    Doesn't matter how long you contracted with them.

    Have you tried IPconfig /renew?

    Where's BobC?
