Hey dont know if this is in the right section but sorry anyway.
Basiclly I have a Dell Inspirion 1545 and I have a problem with the power supply. I have to keep my charger connected to the laptop in order to make it work. Once the charger is removed the laptop switches off. Is this a faulty battery problem not holding any power?
    What you guys think?

    Cheers!

A laptop battery doesn't last forever.

Have you noticed it having shorter and shorter burn time?

    How old is that laptop?

I had a dell inspiron 1545 that i bought brand new in 09. So the fact that its an almost 4 year old computer id say the battery should be replaced. From what i understand the batteries for that model dont have a very long life span.

By the sound of it, your battery is dead. Batteries don't last forever & depreciate a lot quicker if they are always plugged in and charging.
To prolong the life of your new battery, remove charging plug when battery is full & do not replace it until it is very, very low on power. Also, let the battery fully drain every so often & do not leave the laptop charging all night.
If you need the power for gaming performance, my brother has had success removing the battery & running the laptop straight from the power plug. Seek advice before doing this though, because I'm not sure if it's recommended.

    Try the following:

    1) Remove the battery, plug in the charger and turn on the laptop.

    2) Turn on the laptop with the battery and without plugging the charger in.

Does the laptop power on in 1) and 2) ?
