I know its 2006 now, but my problem goes back to november. On the 26th, my laptop wasn't able to get online. I've got Road Runner and the laptop is a Winbook J1. Now trust me, this happens off and on, and i know all i have to do is restart the modem. But the problem is, that didn't fix it. I went through all the troubleshooters and it did nothing. I system restored to the day before and it did nothing. I've been searching through my files for any that were used, created, or modified on the 26th and came across a weird "Sp2 connection patcher". There was a notepad follow titled "Inst" (install) and this is how it read.

"Trying to find wxp sp1 bug... not found
checking applicatino version... NO installed version found
Checking version... checked succesfully
Checking user rights.. checked successfully
Checking tcpip.sys file version... checked successfully

Trying to copy file < C:\windows\system32\dllcache\tcpip.sys> failed
Trying to remove file < C:\windows\system32\dllcache\tcpip.sys> failed
Trying to copy file < C:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys> successfull

check sum success

I have no idea what that program was doing, so I can't help you there. Let's try resetting your TCP/IP stack and see if that helps.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log
