We have an HP laptop computer purchased 7/1/00 - 56K Pavilion N3350. After only 1.5 years - we are having problems with the power source/battery charger, etc.

If and when we want to replace this piece of junk - what do you all suggest is a great laptop with good customer service and rare hardware problems? Every time we want to call HP - we have to call long distance and then wait and wait. If I would have known this - I certainly would have picked a different brand.

Any suggestions? I heard we should stay away from HP and Compaq.

You have been given good advice. I have a Compaq laptop - not only is it crappy, so is their support.

Would recommend DELL - they are highly rated and some say service/support is good. IBM also highly rated, but their support is lacking, IMHO.

I'd rate Dell highest. But I currently have a newer IBM Thinkpad and have discovered IBM's support was very good. Although I needed to send this unit in 3 times (motherboard replacement), they were VERY quick, knowledgabe, and didn't give me any trouble.

Erm, none of my Compaqs have caused me any major trouble, and the few times I've called Tech support they've been nice enough. I just bought a new 1711T, I love it. The right mouse button quit working, though, now I have to send it in. I dont like Dell touchpads, you cant tap them to click. IBM doesnt even have touchpads, ugh. Those cheaper HPs are big and ugly, the 6100 sounds good, but pricey. Sonys look good but everyone says their tech support is bad. I dunno, but I'm happy with my Compaq, it was the best deal I could find after doing alot of shopping.
