Hi, i'm new to the forum and i need help with my toshiba a205-s4577.

it was working fine for the past year and months that i have used it and then one day it suddenly crashed while i was watching a movie. it displayed random patterns on screen. kinda like part of the image from the video is on the screen then a black strip and random colors. I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again... thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!

is there someone who can give me an advice on this? is this somehow caused by dust accumulating inside the laptop? or is it already busted?

    Hello and welcome,

This sounds typical for a video card that bit the dust.

If you have anything inside c:\windows\minidump, copy the .dmp files out, zip them and attach with your next post here.

really? the laptop only has a shared video. does that count for having a video card? i will check it out later as I am not home yet..
and, would a simple cleaning suffice to fix this issue?

    - Yes, sometimes and quite often.

    - Most likely not.

    - Shared video does count for VGA, such as Intel GMA with shared RAM. It could also be bad ram since it's shared. If you attach a few recent .dmp files it will give us a little more information on your problem.

@Ditrich, i have tried last night but i haven't encountered the blue screen so i can't get the error codes... i guess i can't always get the blue screen. but whenever it freezes or crashes, the screen will display a distorted image or a random pattern or sometimes, it doesn't display anything at all and other times, it display a blue square somewhere in the black screen.
