I have a Toshiba Satellite P4 laptop with XP in it. A couple of days ago I changed the battery because the old battery was dead and every thing was working find, but now when I try to boot up I get this message: “ a disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart” I’ve gone into the setup and it’s set to boot from the hard drive (#1). I can not get into the safe mode it just keep going back the message. Need some help…Jim:mad:

you may be able to do a repair - not sure if a restore CD has the recovery console on it ..

perhaps someone else will reply, who know more about recovery CD's

How`easy is the hard drive to take out and put back in....just to see.....mine is just a clip on the bottom..

you could Slave to another PC either using a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE adapter or use a enclosure to get the Data off....if the hard drive itself isn't faulty.

Restore disk do not usually come with a Recovery Console feature
