I have an advent 5313 laptop and for a while now my fan has been making weird sounds like something was stuck in it. At times it got bad and smoke came out. Just a few minutes ago it finally started stuttering and stopping but it's not like it doesn't work.

Any ideas what's going on. I'm trying to figure out how to get to my fan so I can take a proper look at it myself but any solutions would be great.

    Thanks.

How comfortable are you disassembling your laptop?

Smoke from a computer is never good. If the fan went out, and the computer kept running, it's entirely possible that the CPU is fried. Unfortunately, you won't know until you try replacing the fan. Taking apart a laptop can be a challenge all its own. If it's out of warranty, you don't have much to lose.

Fairly comfortable with it I guess. I'll do it anyway. If it doesn't work then i'll have to get a new one. Just something i'll have to put up with. Just not all that sure about how I get to the fan ^^'

Well that's exactly it. The computer kept working despite it all. So the CPU frying is another worry now that I never thought about :/

You get at the fan by taking the entire thing apart. Try searching YouTube for a video on disassembling that particular make and model. Every laptop is a little different. Label the screws as you take them out. There will be dozens, and they're all a little different.
