Whenever i have my max volume on my laptop and playing a song with its speakers, when the climax of the song is reached or any part of the song when the singer is shouting, my laptop will 'hang' awhile with the hard drive activity light lited without flashing, why is this so? Do i need a reformat?

Most likely the internal audio vibrations from the speakers causing disturbance with a connection somewhere (or directly affecting the hard drive mechanically, but that is less likely).

Use external speakers or less volume?

So it's physical rather than electronic.
Something does not like the high level of high frequency vibration.

    Turn the volume down....
