How difficult or tricky is it to replace the harddrive and battery on a Gateway laptop? It looks as though the components should swap out fairly easily but are there problems I should look out for? This is a Gateway model 400VTX. Thank for any help!

Duh, changing a laptop battery is usually done in less that 10 seconds. Battery on all laptops is usually in one side of the computer. You usually just have to press/hold down the battery lock button in the lower side of the laptop and push the battery off. That's it.

Hard Drives are more complicated. You usually will have to take of some screws (where they are are dependant on the laptop model) to remove a piece of the carcass Then you must to remove the HDD itself.

But still a relatively easy task. Probably easier than changing a desktop hard drive.

Just one screw holding the hard drive drawer. Usually with a label "warranty is voided if removed".

After the screw is undone the drawer can be pulled out (just push fit). There are usually 4 screws fixing the hard drive to the drawer frame.

A swap should take no more than 3 minutes. Done it with a BenQ Joybook, a Dell Latitude and a IBM Thinkpad only in the last few months. Definitely easier than a desktop equivalent.

Thanks, people -- it does look "duh" simple, but you know the theory: The easier it looks....Just wanted to be sure.
