Hi,

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times because I myself have read countless posts trying to figure out my problem and solve it, but nothing has seemed to work for me. I have an HP G60-230US laptop and a Linksys router. It says my laptop is connected to linksys but it has a limited connection. It will not connect to the Internet and I can't open the Internet at all. I got an error saying that it was unable to communicate with the Primary DNS Server but I'm pretty clueless as to how to go about fixing this.

Thanks in advance!

The IPCONFIG data seems to indicate that your computer's wireless adapter was able to establish a connection to the router (Default Gateway) and the router's DHCP server at IP address 192.168.1.1 and the DHCP server assigned (leased) an IP address of 192.168.1.127 and your computer is using a primary DNS server at 65.24.7.10. As far as I can tell, that should give you a working Internet connection.

Can you please try each of the following commands shown in bold and post the results in a similar manner as you did the IPCONFIG /ALL test.

See if you can connect to the Primary DNS server ...
TRACERT 65.24.7.10

See if you can connect to the Secondary DNS server ...
TRACERT 65.24.7.11

See if you can connect to www.techguy.org via the domain name:
TRACERT www.techguy.org

See if you can connect to www.techguy.org via the IP address:
TRACERT 209.183.226.152

Has the set-up that is giving you problems ever worked correctly?

If you try to connect your browser to http://192.168.1.1/ do you get the Linksys router's administration log-in page?

My Internet connection on my laptop was fine, and then one day it just decided to stop working. It's very strange.

And yes, if I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser, it asks for a user name and password.

For the commands you're giving me, do I just type them into the Command Prompt? Because, for the first command, this was my result:

1 129 ms 1 ms 1 ms 65.24.7.10
Attempts 2 and 3 were timed out, and 4 says general failure.

Also, how do I connect to the primary DNS server versus the secondary?

yes, you were doing it right by entering the command lines at the command prompt. The TRACERT results show the data path from your computer to the device at the given IP address by listing the routers in that path and the time it takes to move from that trouter

The timeouts reported as the first line of the #2 and #3 TRACERT results or at the end of of a multi-line list?

If the TCP/IP settings in Windows have two DNS addresses list, the first one is the primary and the second one is the second. If Windows can not resolve an domain name on the primary DNS in a timely manner it automatically tries the secondary. Based on the IPCONFIG results, it looks like your computer is probaly getting the DNS data from the router

I am not sure what to make of your TRACERT results. The ones that I usually see have multiple lines of results with the first line showing the response from the router to which the computer is directly connected (192.168.1.1 for your case). Your "1 129 ms 1 ms 1 ms 65.24.7.10" result look like the computer is connecting directly to the Domain Name Server (DNS) on the first hop. Maybe somebody here with a lot more networking knowledge can figure out your TRACERT results.
