Ive got a Toshiba Satellite A85-S107, and the keyboard is essentially dead, anytime I try to type, one of two things happen.

    1. No charecters pop up

    2. Random messed up looking charecters pop up and it'll keep going (as though im holding down a key)

Ive looked around in Control Panel < Keyboard, but nothing there works.

And I tried using my recovery CD for a full reformat...but...well...lets just say I had an issue with having to press F1 to continue...

I want to try everything possible to fix it myself before having to send it off or take it to a repair person...

there is probably a ps/2 port on the back of the laptop, try plugging in a standard ps/2 keyboard and see it reads that. If not, a usb keyboard might work. A keyboard replacement is not a terribly difficult repair in most cases, but I would want to be sure that there is not something else wrong with it (bad mainboard, for example)
