I have a Compaq V2405US laptop (never will I buy a HP product again) and the time required for it to boot up (start up and load) is considerable. On order of 3 to 5 minutes. Is this normal
and is there any way to speed up the boot time?

    Thank You

the first thing we are going to do is turn off indexing ....its a resource hog and if you aren't searching for things on your computer 10 times a day it will only slow down your system....

click on start...my computer...right click on C: drive....properties...on the general tab..uncheck ...allow indexing on this drive....if you do not have the box on your system...or even if you do...
then START...RUN...type in SERVICES.MSC...then OK...scroll down until you find INDEXING SERVICE...click on it and in the general tab set it to DISABLED...then exit

next lets clear out all the unnecessary files...get ccleaner here and run it....

    To remove programs from startup
Start.... Run.... type in msconfig... then hit OK. On the Startup tab, uncheck the ones you don't want to run at startup. The only ones that you need are your anti-virus and firewall and anything that says compaq. After you make changes and reboot, a warning window will appear and warn you that changes were made. Just check the box not to show this again.

also look in start... all programs...startup folder...delete everything in the folder...they are shortcuts is all

go to...My Computer ..Go to ....Tools... Folder Options.... View...

Uncheck ...Automatically search for network folders and printers...click on OK

start with those and let me know how its working
