    Hi there,

I have an old laptop Sony Vaio PCG-V505BP and the problem is that it won’t turn on. Battery is dead.

Using AC Power...now it wouldn't turn on but when I changed the HDD the green power light and charging light came on and I heard HDD start spinning...but there was nothing on the screen so I decided to switch it off and back on. So I did, except the green power light and charging light came on but no HDD activity and once again nothing on the screen.

Any idea's on what the problem is and how to solve it?

    Regards,
    JD

Turn it on without the hard drive to see if it posts.

It sounds like either a power supply problem or one with the motherboard.depending on the age of the computer you will have to see if its worth fixing or not.

    Try re-seating the RAM.

If it is more than 5 years old, I do not think it is worth it.

Can you try it with an external monitor connected to the laptop ?

Well I did try and connect it but this time the laptop wouldn't turn on

Decided to open it up and see if it's getting enough power....when the dc jack is connected to the mobo the red wire says 15.3-15.7v which I think is fine as the adapter gives out 16v except the black wire shows no voltage what so ever....

I also checked the power button now that's receiving 3v, so I'm guessing there's a break somewhere along the line....

Seems to be a power issue I think
