My lap is sick. Went dead on me 2 weeks ago was told battery was probably problem, bought new battery put it in worked great! Left it to charge over night turned it on this morning was working good and went dead once again. What could this be? It is a Gateway MX 7118, Windows XP.

what do you mean "went dead?" Does it refuse to turn on?

If so, does it refuse to turn on without the battery and just an AC adapter?

If it does not turn on at all, and you've gone through several batteries, then you may have something physically wrong like a blown capacitor.

Would that be repairable or is it trashed?

It might be repairable, but you'd probably have to take it to a service center.
