Hi - I've posted here before, but now I'm posting from my mom's laptop which is having some annoying problems.

The laptop is a Fujitsu, 18 months old, running XP Home. Basically, it's running extremely slow; opening programs, accessing the internet, etc all take an excessive amount of time. This has always been a good, fast laptop, but my mom doesn't run any adware or spyware programs regularly, so it's probably gotten quite bogged down with bad stuff.

Another issue, possibly unrelated: when my mom tries to access a page using Flash, the computer usually completely locks up and must be shut down. Ending the app or the process with Task Manager doesn't work--the CPU usage shows as 100%, and the laptop gets quite hot if not immediately shut down. I'm not sure if she just needs to upgrade her Flash player, but this seems unlikely to me, so something loops up when she tries to view Flash.

So her problems are that the whole computer is running very slowly, and that it locks up when she tries to access a page using Flash. Any suggestions? Thanks for anything you can do. :)

This does not appear to be a security problem so I'm moving your post to the XP Forum for assistance.

Well, I have a couple of comments but you might not like what I say:
#1. I would never put a Symantec app on any of my computers. I find them to be excessive resource hogs that slows down a machine.

#2. Do you really need Realplayer and QuicktimeTasks loading at every startup? I doubt it.

#3. A Google search for 1XConfig.exe shows "cpu usage spikes periodicaly, think its to do with intel wireless card in laptop. no ill effects from killing it.."

#4 Try unloading the drivers for your touchpad. I disabled mine on a HP laptop and the touchpad works fine. I don't use any of the fancy key settings possible on it.

#5. Decide whether you actually use some of the other programs. Do you really use AOL? MS Messenger?
