    Hi :)
My laptop seems to be slowing down...ie: slow at start up, fire fox slow to open, even note pads in my documents seem really slow to open
I have most of my CD collection on here( almost 7GB) and was wondering if maybe that could be the cause??
Would buying one of those portable hard drives, and putting all my music on that, help?

Here is a HJT log just in case it's needed. :)

I have have 47GB of music and do not experience the problems you described above. It seems likely that too many processes are loading at startup or you are suffering from insufficient RAM. Although I am not qualified to read your HJT logs.

    Hi Dr. Chauncey :)
I think I have about 192MB of RAM or at least I think I do
When I right click on My Computer and select Properties, it says it there.

That's a bit low for XP, I would recommend at least 512 MB of RAM. What about your CPU?

Go to http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx and let them scan your system. You have to use Internet Explorer for this, but it will tell you specifically what RAM you need. Whether you buy from them or not is your choice. For reference, Crucial is Microns brand name.

For your version of windows 192 MB is too little. You got to upgrade the RAM to at least 512 MB which is twice what Windows is recommended to have. The amount of MP3's right now is irrelevant except for any infections that have been brought in during downloads but the HJT log experts with the gold shields will solve that problem they are the best of the web.

Hello all, thank you for the responses :)
endfro, I went to the site you posted a link to and the results were:
It took almost 10 minutes for the scan to complete

As I read all that, with very little understanding of it, I assume it would cost approx. AU$100?
Is it something I can add myself or do I need to get a computer tech to do it?

zabusant, as you can see from the result, my CPU Speed: 1393 MHz
If I right click "my computer" it says processor 1.40GHz

Thanks again for the replies :)

If you need more RAM, watch the web for sales. Here is one of many sites that you show how RAM is installed. Go to Google and enter: how to install RAM or some such subject and then pick the link you find easiest to understand. Good luck
